TATTOO AFTERCARE
AFTER CARE INSTRUCTIONS
We use two different types of bandages for tattoos, so it's important to know which set of instructions to follow.
- **Saniderm Aftercare**:
If your artist used an adhesive bandage that resembles 'second skin,' follow these instructions.
- **Basic Aftercare**:
If your artist used plastic wrap and medical tape, these are the instructions for you.
**Step 2: Saniderm Aftercare**
Saniderm is a breathable, waterproof bandage, which allows for showers and light exercise (sweating). However, avoid fully submerging your tattoo in water (e.g., pools, baths, hot tubs).
- Leave the Saniderm wrap on for 4-7 days. If it leaks, peels up, or has excess fluid buildup, you can remove it earlier.
- When removing the bandage, peel it off slowly in the direction of hair growth. Do this in the shower for easier removal.
- After removal, wash your tattoo thoroughly to exfoliate the top layer. Apply unscented lotion 2-3 times daily for the next 3-4 days.
**Step 3: Basic Aftercare**
For those with tattoos covered in plastic wrap and medical tape, here's what to do:
- Showers and light exercise are fine, but avoid full submersion in water.
- After 1-2 hours (or as instructed by your artist), remove the bandage and start the washing and ointment routine.
- Wash your tattoo with clean hands, using antibacterial liquid soap and warm water. Rinse well and pat dry with a clean paper towel.
- Repeat the washing process at least 2 times a day, ideally 3-4 times. After each wash, apply a thin layer of ointment (e.g., Aquaphor).
- Continue this routine for 1-2 weeks or until your tattoo has completely peeled, similar to a sunburn.
**Step 4: Artist's Recommendations**
Please also refer to any specific recommendations provided by your tattoo artist. If you have any questions or concerns during the healing process, feel free to reach out to us. We're here to help!
